    I respectfully disagree, the Cowboys will have some rust to shake off as well;
Steptoe will take one all the way.
    Browns 27
    cowboys 24

I respectively dissagree as well...except I believe, Tony, it will not be as close as you say

    Cowboys 41
    Browns 13

    On ESPN.com today below.......GREAT QUESTION

"Is the Browns front office on vacation? Ricky Manning and Delta O'Neal both got cut within the past week or so--how is it that neither ends up in Cleveland? The secondary has been terrible all preseason and could be the thing that holds the team back this year. How can they be considering an overpriced, well-past-his-prime Ty Law, but not make any attempt to grab either of these guys?

But the biggest surprise for me was Cleveland didn't try to land former Denver Broncos cornerback Domonique Foxworth. The Atlanta Falcons gave up a seventh-round pick for Foxworth, which looks like a steal. He backed up Champ Bailey and Dre Bly in Denver and could have helped Cleveland's secondary immediately."

    Posted by buckeyeart92 on 09/05/08 at 5:18PM

drewbranham, I believe the Browns want to see what Travis Daniels can do before he makes other moves.....remember those guys were cut by other teams for a reason.....

Posted by RJforGM on 09/05/08 at 7:06PM

Tony underestimates what emotion can do in the NFL. True, the Browns have been horrible in other season openers, but this team has much higher expectations and much more talent that previous teams. In a typical NFL game, unless it is a complete mismatch, underdog teams end up 1 or 2 plays away from grasping the lead at a key point of the game. Home field advantage is called that for good reason. especially in a home opener. (Remember the horrible Saints beating the projected Superbowl Panthers 2-3 years ago?) I just see the Browns, with a crazy crowd, keeping it close enough to win in the end. This is provided they tie or win the turnover battle (Note to Derek).

    Hey buckeyeart92

I do not disagree with you, but let's face it, it is nerve racking to have a less than experienced secondary.

    Drew

Posted by bamsterman on 09/05/08 at 8:07PM

Well, we ain't gonna have to wait much longer to see what we got here. As much as I hate to say this, I'm really worried. I'm afraid the LB problem is going to effect both sides of the ball. The Cowboys are gonna pound the right side with Barber, play action to that side hitting Whitten until the safety's come up and then it's T.O. time. It ain't gonna be purty!
I love the Browns but we're in trouble. We've got some very good starters, but we just ain't got good depth.

Posted by poppadawg on 09/06/08 at 9:26AM

27-20 Yeah Right. This is a complete and total mismatch. The Cowboys boast one of the best front 7 in the game and have 3 first rounders in the secondary, going against a starting offensive unit for the Browns that haven't played a down togetheer this preseason. How are we going to score 20 points?
On the flip side you have a Dallas offensive unit loaded with talent in Romo,TO,Witten,Barber and Crayton with one of the best o-lines going against the #27 ranked defense from last year. I got news for ya, 2 new DL minus a starting CB does not an upgrade make. Not with a LBing unit of 1 old man, 1 undersized ILB, 1 ILB who can't fill, and 1 OLB who's a one trick pony. Yeah, good luck with that. I say Cows 37 Browns 13.

Posted by nhdawgpound on 09/06/08 at 10:24AM

hey Poppadawg.. Do you know where Crayton would be on our depth chart? he would have been CUT.
You spy on owens with a safety pretty much at all times, and give them the underneath stuff while focusing on stuffing the run.

this is a winnable game for the Browns.
They may have the best O-line in the league, but ours is a damn close 2nd.

Buck up and try to enjoy the game, I don't think it will be as bad as you think.... PLUS, we have excellent special teams to theirs which is their weakest link on the team, other than their receivers after owens...

Posted by rutsski on 09/12/08 at 1:06PM

Tony Grossi's last line says it all about this guy. "If the Browns loose this game, the season is over." You suck Tony.

    GO BROWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by dcatl on 09/12/08 at 1:27PM

Unfortunately, Tony is probably correct. Must-win game or season over and Romeo done. Emotion and effort will tell us a lot in this game. This is a situation where a good coach makes a difference and a bad coach proves incapable.

Posted by GreengrassJK on 09/12/08 at 1:36PM

Catch the F'''''g ball Braylon!!!! You drive that Bentley because you make millions... time to earn it!!!

Posted by slowe on 09/12/08 at 1:51PM

rutsski, please give me some hope. If the Browns go 0-2 with a loss to the Steelers, how are they going to save the season? I would love to find a straw to clutch onto. 1964

    Posted by larryc7561 on 09/12/08 at 2:00PM

well if this the must win game what about the next one and the ones after that. I think it will go like this we need this win don't want to go go down 0and3 this early in the season, one after that we need this one to keep moral up can't have a 0-4 start, till we get to the tried and true were playing for pride, lastly we will hear the call wait till next year after all were drafting first in the spring.Crennel and Savage must go!

Posted by rutsski on 09/12/08 at 2:04PM

Gotta have hope. Never give up. There are 16 games in the season, not 2.

Look at the first game last year. I would love to see the discussion board after that game.

    Never
    Give
    Up

Posted by slowe on 09/12/08 at 2:09PM

Bill Cower has been rearing his ugly head in many posts as the new Browns head coach. Please stop the madness. You want to throw a name out there, forget the retreads and Bellichek hangerons. Bernie Kosar, yes Bernie Kosar! Smart, driven to win, "offensive offense!" I'm bringin my sign to the game. No way a Steeler retread should coach a Cleveland Brown Fooltball Team.1964

Posted by terje on 09/12/08 at 2:15PM

tony sticking with his preseason projection is like a man sticking with a hyundai after it's cracked the engine block and had it's rear axle broken.

even if they miraculously manage to beat pittsburgh this team will go nowhere with the current head coach. and now i'm starting to wonder if savage is intentionally trying to tank the season by stubbornly refusing to pick up players who could help fill in some of the gaps caused by injury.

    go browns in 3289!

    Posted by Joseph1970 on 09/12/08 at 2:19PM

Yes larryc. O & 2 Browns. Steelers 2&0. + a divion win and head to head win. That will use up about 8 of the cats nine lives two weeks into the regular season. It will stil not be over but it will be very hard for them to go through the remaining 14 games and not stumble again. Especially with all these injuries.

Gone will be the echos of "It's only one preseason game" replaced by "I told you so!"...

I personally think barring a miracle the above is what we will be staring at Monday morning. Fiiring Crenell will be the very first impulse but accountability needs to be taken for Phil refusing to pick up available jobless corners that are way above what we have on the roster talent wise and experience wise... He is in effect going to ruin this year by being obstinante and not getting help for the secondary. We are answering starting star NFL recievers with second string, third string and practice squad DB's. And that will get you 10+ losses in a hurry. I know there are injuries everywhere but Phil has not reacted and adressed those injuries with ready help available (maybe he isn't picking them up because he doesn't need to give up a draft pick to do so). And if the season is torpedoed by the Browns giving up a half dozen aor more 300 yard passing games then his position really needs to be evaluated. In fact iif the above is realized as the eventual outcome of this season he should be fired on the spot at the end of the year.................. If the Browns go 6 & 10, dead last in pass defense while having had these DB's out there - I do not want to see savage in the front office next year.

Posted by dcatl on 09/12/08 at 2:19PM

I would love to see Bernie coaching the Browns. He definitely would NOT be kicking fields down by 21 late in the game.

    Posted by Joseph1970 on 09/12/08 at 2:29PM

    dcatl

Take note of the second pitts loss where the situation was very similar with the Browns holding a big lead late in the game. The steelers went for it on fourth and 9 and ben got a first down on a scramble. Innstead what does RAC do in the same situation? Kick a field goal. Just like calling three straight pass plays on first and goal in 50 MPH winds against the worse run defense in the leauge (possibly in the history of football) with Jamal sitting on the bench. As hideous as it looks - all of this is connected. It is why the steelers win every time and always go to the playoffs while we do niether...

Posted by CanisMaximus on 09/12/08 at 2:39PM

Dcatl asks the big question: Why isn’t Bernie Kosar the Browns coach? Savage could stop sticking his nose on where it doesn’t belong and Cleveland would have two Super Bowl wins in six years.

Posted by dcatl on 09/12/08 at 2:45PM

I hear ya Joseph. What bothers me most about that decision to kick a FG is that it completely defies logic and common sense. Either he's really bad at simple math or he actually believes he was keeping his team in the game. Both of those are really scary thoughts if true. And when our head coach is making such embarrassingly bad decisions in public, it kinda makes you wonder what other bad decisions are being made by him on a daily basis behind the scenes. I have completely lost faith in Romeo at this point. I guess we'll see what shows up on Sunday night...

Posted by slowe on 09/12/08 at 3:57PM

THE REASON FOR THE FIELD GOAL---Romeo Crennel QUIT! He gave up. Plain and simple. He should be coaching pee wee soccer.

    Posted by 2bBob on 09/12/08 at 5:36PM

I agree that the Browns need to focus first and foremost on stuffing the run and then on getting to the QB, but I suspect what we are going to get is more of the BEND AND THEN BREAK defense. I could be wrong, but I can' remember the last time I saw an aggressive Browns defense.

Posted by realitychuck on 09/12/08 at 8:01PM

    Highly confidential.

Derek "MUST WIN" this game, or he's not the guy. The only difference between last year and this would be the starter lasted two games instead of one, before he got ditched. You can't have the inmates run the asylum, as in Braylon touting Derek since last season, essentially running Romeo. Just recently deciding it would be best if he just shut up and played, while concentrating on doing his job rather than who HIS Q.B. is.

P.S. To the D.A. supporters; THIS IS A MUST WIN GAME!

Posted by browndawgbob on 09/13/08 at 6:20AM

    Reality - right on.

Must win for DA - or give him the clip board. He needs to step up and be a captain.

Posted by realitychuck on 09/13/08 at 12:31PM

    bdb,
Way to go. If Derek wins he holds on. Pretty simple. Either way Go Browns!

Posted by romeostinko on 09/13/08 at 6:26PM

Well as I see it this is either the Browns "Super Bowl!" Or "The end of the road!" Mainly for DA and Romeo. Its sad but it seems the Browns season all hinges on the second game of the year. If they do loose which in true Browns fashion seems inevitable, I say put in Quinn maybe spark the team a bit. Lets face it what will we have to lose another game. Anderson tailed off last season twoard the end and it seems to have carried to this season. Oh well as Browns fans have said for many, many years, "Maybe next year."

    Posted by soreback70 on 09/13/08 at 9:31PM

This is gona get ugly Sunday! let's hope Romeo decides to show up this time, I'm trying to think possitive, but if they were playing another team I'd feel different, lots of injuries and new players, it's gona take time for them to get on the same page, loosing Sunday is not gona make it easy to gain any momentum, in the same token I don't think the season is over either. what really upsets me though is some people are already throwing in the towel if we don't beat Pukeburgh, come on guys and gals there is 15 more games to go, we have too much talent to go 2 and 14, I will say the Steelers 37 Browns 26 I know I know I'm already giving it to Pukeburgh, but just being real about it, who knows what could transpire, anyway GO BROWNS!!! GO INDIANS!!! and GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
